kai dong Bento Box

Metal in microwaves can cause sparks if it has sharp edges, but smooth, rounded metal is generally safe. Our kai dong bento box is made of stainless steel with no sharp edges, so it's microwave-safe—just remember to open the airtight valve before heating!

Dimension: W 7.4 in x D 4.96 in x H 2.76 in (W 188 mm x D 126 mm x H 70 mm)
Weight: Bento box 6.53 oz (185 g) / Silicone collapsible lid 4.76 oz (135 g)
Material: Made from 304 stainless steel and food-grade silicone, free from BPA, PFAS, and PTFE! ✨
Capacity: Bento box 30 oz (900 ml) ±5%
Heat Resistant: Stainless steel container up to 1472°F/800°C, collapsible lid up to 392°F/200°C

Since our bento box is made from lightweight 304 single-layer stainless steel, it's not vacuum-insulated and won't retain heat. With the silicone lid, it keeps food fresh, blocks dust and odors, and is microwave-safe for easy heating.

The kai dong bento box was designed in collaboration with a Taiwan-based lifestyle brand with 20 years of experience. It’s manufactured in China by a factory specializing in high-quality products for export to Europe and the U.S. All materials meet FDA testing in the U.S. and LFGB standards in Germany for safety and quality.

Children under the age of 12 should not operate the microwave and use this product independently.

The stainless steel box has a slight tapered design, so it doesn’t fully nest when stacked, leaving a small gap for easy removal. When sealed with a silicone lid, multiple boxes can be securely stacked!

During mass production, the stainless steel parts undergo separate processes of 'sandblasting' and 'electrolytic mattification.' The box body and partition tray are manually assembled into the final product. Due to slight differences in processing time, a small number of parts may show slight variations in their glossy or matte finishes. This does not affect the product's functionality, and it can still be used as intended.

The rainbow pattern is a natural result of the chromium oxide layer forming on the stainless steel, which helps prevent rust. It's a good sign! To remove it, simply boil the container with hot water and a bit of baking soda, citric acid, vinegar, or sodium percarbonate.

The metal box is lightweight yet flexible, so if it's subjected to pressure or twisted during cleaning, slight deformation can occur. If this happens, try gently twisting the box back to its original shape (refer to this video for guidance). If that doesn’t work, please reach out to us!

The metal box has a certain level of structural hardness and durability, making it capable of withstanding the normal use and cleaning with metal utensils. Minor scratches on the surface will not affect its microwave functionality. If the product is accidentally impacted and suffers visible damage or defects, please stop using it and replace it with a new one. Visible damage or defects refer to any noticeable chips or holes caused by impact. Please stop using the product to avoid injury from sharp edges or leakage.

Yes! Food-grade stainless steel (such as 304 stainless steel) is designed to be stable, non-reactive, and resistant to corrosion. It contains 11% chromium, which forms a protective oxide layer to prevent rust, and 10% nickel, which enhances resistance to acidic and alkaline foods.

✔ Safe for lemon juice, dairy, carbonated drinks, and most everyday foods.
✔ Just avoid prolonged storage of highly salty or alkaline foods to maintain its longevity.
✔ Rinse and clean promptly after use for the best care.

Bento Box Microwave + Cooking Instructions

Avoid microwaving for more than 10 minutes at a time. Use medium power and gradual heating rather than high heat to prevent food from overheating. It is recommended to start with 2-3 minutes on medium power. If needed, add 1-minute increments, stirring in between for even heating. For longer heating, use 5-10 minute intervals at medium heat.

⚠ Important Reminders:

- Do not microwave stainless steel containers alongside other metal items.
- Only heat one container at a time, ensuring it’s centered on the turntable.
- Avoid placing the container in the corners or edges to prevent damage to the microwave.
- Always review the product manual for safe usage guidelines.
Following these steps will help you microwave safely and efficiently! 😊

Microwave Heating Tips
🔹 Heat in Rounds
1. To ensure even heating, use medium power and heat in two rounds.
2. Halfway through, take out the food and stir with chopsticks or a spoon to help distribute the heat evenly.

🔹 Adjust Power Settings
Different microwaves require different power levels to avoid uneven heating:
700W microwave → Use medium-high power
1000W microwave → Use medium-low power

🔹Heating Time
It’s recommended that the total heating time for each stage does not exceed 5 minutes to prevent the food from losing moisture, which could affect its taste and freshness, while also allowing for better temperature control.

First round of heating: 3 to 5 minutes
Second round of heating: 2 to 3 minutes

✅ Use gradual heating: Start with medium heat for 3 minutes, then add 2–3 minutes as needed, stirring or flipping food midway.
✅ Center placement: Always place the bento box in the middle of the turntable for even rotation and heating.
✅ Adjust for wattage: If your microwave is 700–900W, increase heating time gradually, avoiding single sessions longer than 5 minutes.

When microwaving liquid foods, especially soups or milk, be cautious about the heating time to avoid superheating or boiling over.

What is Superheating?
Superheating occurs when the liquid reaches its boiling point but does not actually boil. When the liquid is disturbed (e.g., by adding powder, stirring, or shaking), it can suddenly boil and cause the liquid to erupt!

If you need to heat liquids and want to prevent superheating, consider using low power and heat gradually in multiple intervals to avoid reaching the boiling point too quickly.

For safety and even heating, only place one bento box in the microwave at a time. Make sure it’s centered on the turntable to avoid damage. For any questions, always refer to the product manual for proper use!

Our silicone lid is made from the highest quality platinum-grade silicone (like baby pacifiers). It is durable, resistant to both heat and cold (-30°C to 200°C), and can withstand boiling water for sterilization. It’s safe for use in microwaves, electric cookers, ovens, and steamers. You can also store it in the fridge or freezer and clean it in the dishwasher! 👌

When microwaving, the silicone lid is designed to prevent moisture loss and splattering, keeping your microwave clean. It’s important to open the air valve on the lid during heating to release pressure and steam. This will prevent burns when opening the lid afterward.

If you're using the "steam baking" function, it's fine! But if using the "microwave function," please follow these tips:

1. Place the container in the center of the microwave plate and elevate it with a silicone sleeve or ceramic/glass tray to avoid damaging the heating plate.
2. Microwave only one container at a time. Do not use other metal accessories (like grill racks), as multiple metal items can cause sparks.
3. Keep the container away from the sides of the oven.
4. Avoid long heating times—use 3-5 minute intervals instead.

Note: When using the "steam baking" function, temperatures can reach 392°F/200°C or higher, which could damage silicone parts. Our silicone items are safe up to 392°F/200°C.

Since steam convection ovens are newer, multifunctional, and have limited testing data, our bento boxes are primarily tested for traditional microwave use. We recommend using a standard rotating microwave instead. (Steam convection ovens are not included in the recommended devices on the product page.)

⚠️ kai dong is not responsible for any damage to steam convection ovens.

If this happens, please provide the following details so we can report the issue to our product team:
- Microwave brand/model
- Type of food being heated
- Has this happened before? If so, please describe both past and current issues.
Our team will review and get back to you as soon we can.

The kai dong Bento Box is made from 304 stainless steel and can be safely used on direct flame. Note the following when heating with direct flame:

1. Contact with high temperatures can cause the formation of a "rainbow metal film" due to oxidation, affecting appearance but not performance.
2. As it is a thin metal, it's best used with dishes that have more liquid, such as tomato soup or noodle soup.

Our bento box is non-magnetic. While it may have slight magnetism during production, heating efficiency is lower compared to induction-specific containers, and heating times may be longer. Therefore, it's not recommended for induction cooking.

Yes, as long as the temperature stays below 392°F/200°C!

Bento Box Silicone Accessories

Occasionally, newly produced silicone parts may have a slight residual odor from the raw silicone material. If you notice a plastic-like smell, here's a simple method to help:

1. Place the silicone parts in a pot of hot water, fully submerging them. Add one teaspoon of baking soda or sodium percarbonate, and bring it to a boil for 3–5 minutes. Let it sit for about an hour to remove the odor. Then, rinse and wipe it clean before use.
2. For regular cleaning, baking soda or sodium percarbonate breaks down quickly at high temperatures, releasing oxygen to neutralize odors and discoloration.

For deep sanitizing, bring a pot of water to a boil, add a bit of sodium percarbonate, and let the silicone boil for 5–10 minutes. Afterward, soak overnight and clean it to eliminate germs, odors, and stains.

Feel free to try this method to clean your silicone parts!

If your silicone parts have become discolored over time due to food oils or pigments (like curry or kimchi), you can use sodium percarbonate for cleaning. It’s great for odor and stain removal. It works by releasing oxygen at high temperatures to neutralize odors and discoloration.

For regular cleaning, mix baking soda or sodium percarbonate with warm water, stir with chopsticks or a spoon, and let it sit for about 15 minutes before rinsing.

For deep sanitizing, you can boil the silicone parts in a pot of water, adding a bit of sodium percarbonate. Let it boil for 5–10 minutes to open the silicone pores, dissolve the stains, and soak overnight. Afterward, clean, wipe, and let it dry to achieve deep sanitizing, odor, and stain removal.

We hope this helps keep your silicone parts looking fresh!

Our Recommendations:
1. Metal containers and silicone parts should be washed with a mild dishwashing detergent and rinsed with clean water before air drying.
2. Can be placed in a regular home dishwasher for cleaning; it's recommended to use a dish-specific mild detergent for the material.
3. Avoid using steel wool, sharp hard brushes, or cleaning products containing abrasives (like diamond dust) as they may scratch or damage the surface.
